RE: Sametime 8 client on Ubuntu ~Laura Opponelyli 4.Jan.08 05:05 AM a Web browser Client All ReleasesLinux
Thanks for your informative response.
I don't have a plan, as I didn't have enough understanding of the problem. The process you describe sounds good though.
I guess I'm just surprised that the scripts have issues. I've run into IBMers that use Ubuntu, and with its popularity over the past year or so I just expected 8 to be better rather than worse. Aren't there more potential Ubuntu customers than Mac customers?
Seems like someone would do some simple tests and then we wouldn't have these workarounds for Sametime and Lotus Notes . After all, once you get them installed they run great. Maybe it can't be officially supported, but at least let it install correctly.
And I don't get why Lotus Notes is a basic .tar.gz, yet Sametime client is a .rpm. Why not (re)use the same packaging formats and processes?
As I've posted before in another IBM forum, this would all be easier if IBM would more specifically explain their plans and goals for desktop products on Linux.
